Hi everybody!
My name is Martijn van der Helm from Holland and I am 23 years old.
I just graduated for the education Hydrography on the Maritime Institute `Willem Barentsz` on Terschelling.
Because I`ve been on this school, I know about navigation, radar, GPS, maritime communication, etc.
After I graduated I`ve been sailing on the Tallship Thalassa (a three masted barquentine from Holland) for four months. we`ve been sailing on the Baltic sea, North sea and Biscay.
Now It`s time to cross the cross the atlantic ocean! My plan is to travel to Costa Rica and find a job there as a divemaster or surf/sail instructor for a while.. After I`ve earned some money my plan is to travel to an onther place..
On board of the Sonia1 we all speak English now which causes sometimes funny situations :-) or misunderstandings. (my France is very bad) So now it`s time for me to learn some French and for Jean Jaque and Paul to learn some English.
Probably when we arrive in Brazil, the men speak English and I some French.
For now, we first need some fine weather and fair winds, so wish us luck!

Je m'appelle Martijn van der Helm, j'habite en Hollande et j'ai 23 ans.
Je viens d'obtenir le diplôme d'"ingénieur hydrographique" à l'Institut Marine "Willem Barentsz" de Terschelling.
Le fait d'avoir étudié à cette université me permet de maitriser la navigation, l'utilisation du radar, du GPS, des communications marines, etc.
Après l'obtention de mon diplôme j'ai navigué sur le voilier "Thalassa" (un trois-mâts goelette hollandais), pendant 4 mois. Nous avons navigué sur la mer Baltique, la mer du Nord, et le golfe de Gascogne.
Maintenant il est temps de traverser l'océan atlantique! Mon projet est de voyager jusqu'au Costa Rica et d'y trouver un travail comme moniteur de plongée ou instructeur de surf/voile pour quelques temps... Après avoir gagné assez d'argent, je projette de voyager autre part.
A bord de Sonia 1 nous parlons tous Anglais, ce qui provoque quelquefois des situations marrantes :-) ou des malentendus. (Mon Français est très mauvais) Alors maintenant il est temprs pour moi d'apprendre un peu de Français, et pour Jean Jacques et Paul d'apprendre un peu d'Anglais.
Quand nous arriverons au Brésil, les deux hommes parlerons surement Anglais et moi un peu Français.
Pour l'instant, nous avons surtout besoin d'un peu de beau temps et de bons vents, alors souhaitez nous bonne chance!
